Debate is one of the academic activities that give students creative room to express what they feel. The length and breadth of knowledge that they gain through this is simply unparallel.
Hi, my name is Spandana and I'm here with my team, who are the winners of the interschool online debate tournament, hosted by BRS Global School Biddaraguppe. The competition was held on 2nd January 2021. It was a very fresh and exciting experience and was enjoyed by everyone. I was one of the main organisers for the debate competition and also a winning participant. Miss Ooha Reddy and Mahima Reddy, who are the ex-students of our school anchored for the competition. The judge for this online tournament was Dhanush Jagdish. There was a total of 27 participants in 9 teams with 3 people in each team. This competition was held in 3 rounds, and the winner of each debate was promoted to the next round. The topic for the first round was "The farmers bill is just to all the stakeholders and must be implemented". The topic for the second round was "There should be a minimum threshold age below which the use of social media is deemed illegal" and the topic of the final round was "The reopening of educational institutions is the right move for physical and mental wellbeing of students". The teams had to debate against each other and whether they speak "for" or "against" the motion was decided by the judge on the spot. The debate was extremely interactive and was conducted over a zoom meeting. The audience too highly appreciated and encouraged the participants. Multiple participants from different schools and age groups took part in this debate competition. The teams were well prepared and used various skills like overstatement, definition, irony etc to convince the audience. The participants, armed with statistics and data validated and made their arguments more empathetic with right facial expressions and gestures. All the teams exhibited great oratorical skills. They put in tremendous hard work to showcase their talent and make the online event a grand success.
At the end of the heated but interesting debate, which lasted from 9am to 3pm, finally Spandana, Karunya and Akshita from BRS Global school Bidaraguppe were declared as the winning team. Achintya Sharma, Kavin and Chinmay from BRS Global School Kasavanahalli were runners-up. In individual performance, Muzammil Merchant was awarded best speaker, seniors' batch and Achintya Sharma was awarded best speaker, juniors' batch. Besides this, all participants received e-certificates. The chief guests thanked and congratulated everyone for the beautiful event and thus the online debate competition came to an end.
